Owner and Designer
Matt moved into the Hudson Valley in 2006 looking to find a mix of community and natural beauty that is uncommon in today’s world. He has always been deeply connected with nature – a passion that drove him to climb big walls in Zion, UT, hike in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, and bicycle across the United States. After completing his Honors Degree at Penn State in Earth Sciences, he went on to found a small construction company and build two super-insulated and very “green” homes in the area as well as several other barns, sheds, and other structures. Acting as both the general contractor, project manager, and lead craftsman on these projects lent him a diverse background of skills and knowledge.
Since exiting the house building arena, Matt has been constantly improving his woodworking skills and supplementing them with an interesting mix of industrial sewing and welding. The ability to meld different materials together gives Matt the unique ability to tackle a wide range of projects from the fabric covered structures called yurts to fine wooden furniture.
Clean Air Yurts, a company founded in 2010, has been a great success in both the local and national areas. In 2012, Clean Air Yurts produced over 24 different custom yurts for various customers all across the country, from Texas to California, and to Alberta and Ontario in Canada, as well as local customers. In addition to fabric yurt tents, Clean Air Yurts designs and builds round cabins and houses, three of which were erected since 2011.
Clean Air Woodworks is a project focused on designing and building innovative wood, fabric, and metal creations that are heirloom quality, durable, beautiful, and functional. The Hudson Valley location provides the best combination of access to high quality locally cut hardwoods and convenience to a large population of customers on the East Coast. We are luck to have a supply of reclaimed and recycled wood slabs that can be found nowhere else.
